Flyers, Hillary Keep Fighting

Two of my favorite teams, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Clinton political machine, scored major victories yesterday. Both have been counted out several times in the past, yet both keep winning and coming back for more. Let's hope they can build on their momentum, keep winning and go for their respective ultimate prizes: Lord Stanley's Cup and the White House (remember, Obama fans, this is about the White House, not the nomination).

Bilingual Cheesesteak Battle Goes On

An English-only sign that inflamed racial tensions in south Philadelphia at Geno's Steaks will be allowed to stay, according to a city commission that reviewed the issue. This will undoubtedly usher in a new round of debate over the sign.

But, if you find yourself in the city of brotherly love and hungry for an authentic cheese steak, you need to go where it all started.

Built to Spill Live in Philadelphia

Now that we are settling into our new digs after the big move, Friday night was the perfect time to hit my first east coast concerts in years. My brother and I headed down to Philly to eat some classic cheese steaks and see Built to Spill. The band is currently touring the US, and if last night was any indication, the tour is going very well. The band poured it on thick from the first moment of the show. They were tight and energetic as they tore through a 17-song set with 1 encore. They played a few songs from their most recent release, You in Reverse, as well as some older, crowd-favorites. The audience rocked right along with the band, pouring on a bit more heat towards the end. Built to Spill is an intriguing, and hard-driving band, incorporating a Dinosaur Jr-meets-Yes approach to modern American rock. Check them out if you get the chance, or just enjoy the video for "Car" below.
